How much time do you spend on social media? Check this — 50% of consumers plan to abandon or significantly limit their social media use over the next year, technology/management research firm Garter reports. Folks say they’re sharing less personal information and content and 70% are concerned about AI in social media, fearing its unrestricted use could spread “false or misleading information.”
Gartner’s 263 survey respondents cited “misinformation, toxic users, and the prevalence of bots” for a grownig reluctance to spend time on social media, while digital marketers are still highly focused on that segment of the public to sell goods and services.
Watch for the online advertising landscape to change drastically as consumers carry out their intentions to drop social media in favor of “private messaging apps and closed [discussion] groups.”
